The New Jersey Chapter of The Association of Black Psychologists invites student members to apply for the Dr. Lawrence Houston Scholarship Fund by writing an essay on the topic below.

​​Essay Topic for 2024:

What Have You Done for Your People Lately? In this essay, please describe ways
in which you have used your education and experience to advocate for, assist and or empower
Black individuals. How does this relate to the NJABPsi mission and further the ABPSI legacy?

Additionally, include 2-3 activities you have engaged in this past year, in the community, with
NJABPsi/ABPsi and in what ways you will contribute to NJABPsi/ABPsi if you are the award
recipient.

Essay Instructions:

1. Place your name, school & department name, year in school, address, & e-mail on a title page. Do not put your name on other pages of your document.

2. Submit the essay to NJABPSI@gmail.com no later than Friday, January 26, 2024.

3. The essay text is limited to no more than three (3) double-spaced, 12-point font, single-sided, numbered pages with one-inch margins, or 750 words.

4. Please only use a WORD Document, No PDFs

5. Previous First Place Winners not eligible to apply

6. One essay per student.
